At the event, children signed their names as a commitment to being kind, respectful and responsible—three values that will guide them as they begin learning alongside new classmates and teachers. Families and students also decorated a banner that will be kept for the class’s fifth-grade promotion six years from now, creating a tangible connection between the first day of kindergarten and a future school milestone.
The banner identifies the students as the Valley Road School Class of 2032. The project offered children a chance to see their own names and artwork become part of a shared class keepsake, while giving families a moment to celebrate the start of a new school chapter.
Students posed for photographs in front of a new Valley Road School backdrop and received school hats. The event’s simple rituals—signing, creating, posing and receiving a school memento—were intended to make the first days of kindergarten feel welcoming and memorable.
The school said the Signing Day recognized that kindergarten is not only the start of classroom routines, but also the beginning of a longer relationship with a school community. The Class of 2032’s banner is expected to return at fifth-grade promotion, allowing the students to look back on the commitments and excitement that accompanied their first days at Valley Road School.
